Yummy Chocolate!
This is a month when we get a little more chocolate obsessed. #valentinesday. So I thought I would spread some good will about chocolate!
First up are 3 benefits of eating quality chocolate:
#1 Magnesium - This macromineral is abundant in cocoa. It relaxes muscles and is a co-factor for proper anti-inflammatory pathways.
#2 Phytonutrients - The Phytonutrients found in chocolate have been shown to increase antioxidant capacity and decrease oxidative stress.
#3 Neurotransmitters - We all know that chocolate really makes people feel good. This is because it affects the brain causing it to release “happy” neurotransmitters. These transmitters such as serotonin and phenylethylamine can give you a sense of well-being and pure joy.
Now before I post some links to some of my favorite chocolate please understand that not all people react to chocolate the same way and not all chocolate is created equal. For some people, chocolate can cause an allergic reaction. Naturally-occurring caffeine in cocoa can cause stress on an already stressed-out person. Be aware and listen to your body! Also, the more pure cocoa in that chocolate bar the more nutrients. Dark chocolate is the way to go! If choosing milk chocolate then please consider the quality of milk and sweetener contained within. These 2 things will greatly outweigh the benefits of the cocoa.
One other note, this should not give you a license to overindulge on chocolate! Again, listen to your body and be aware of it’s needs. Know what is in your chocolate treat and then enjoy free of guilt.
Here are a few brands of chocolate that I recommend:

These brands are carried at Natural Grocers and can also be ordered on Amazon. They are high quality and have a variety of flavor combinations to excite your brain even more. ;)
Here is an extra bonus, one of my favorite chocolate pudding recipes:
